Executive Committee
The committee consists of the president, the vice president, the secretary, the
treasurer and the immediate past president. The SPJ president and the SDX executive
director are ex-officio members. The Executive
Committee has two main functions: 1) to direct and coordinate the board's activities
and 2) to represent the board's interests between meetings. One member of this
committee will serve on each of the standing committees.

Governance/ Mission Committee
This committee's purview includes board policies and
operations and membership. It has responsibility for defining the board's organization,
administration, officer and member terms, number of members, formation of policy,
bylaws and other administrative and operational matters. This committee identifies
and recruits board members, and as necessary, evaluates the overall work and focus
of the foundation.

Finance Committee
All matters having to do with the budget, investments,
audits and fundraising initiatives are handled by this committee. The committee
works closely with the associate executive director on long-range financial plans
and fundraising projects.

Grants and Awards Committee
This committee develops criteria and policies for the
grant applications and eligibility, screens applications and makes recommendations
to the board on grant applications, including whether funding should come from
the general fund or specific funds. It monitors the progress of funded projects
and develops priorities for funding. The committee coordinates activities with
the Society's awards chairman.

Communications and Outreach Committee
This committee makes recommendations to the board on educational
initiatives, public and journalistic forums and other projects and programs
having to do with the board's role as the foundation arm of SPJ. The committee
coordinates with other committees but has primary responsibilities for press
releases, and ensuring appropriate SDX visibility in SPJ literature and brochures,
web content and other promotional venues.

Projects Committee
This committee develops project proposals for board consideration
and, when necessary, outside funding. The committee is also charged with bringing
selected projects to fruition, Collaboration with the
development committee is expected.

Development Committee
This committee helps to identify prospective donors and works
with the associate executive director to develop strategies for soliciting donations and
cultivating donors. It also works closely with the projects committee.
