About Freedom of the Prez
Freedom of the Prez is a blog maintained by national presidents of the Society of Professional Journalists, one of the largest and oldest journalism-advocacy organizations in the United States. This blog is a forum where the Society's commander-in-chief shares information and opinion about various aspects of journalism, the news industry and the Society itself.
The blog currently is maintained by SPJ National President Dave Aeikens, a reporter at the St. Cloud Times in Minnesota.
Aeikens is a lifelong Minnesota resident. He started his journalism career as a reporter at the Albert Lea Tribune, his hometown paper. He has been at the St. Cloud Times for 15 years covering schools, state government, politics and serving as the paper's first night city editor from 1999-2003. He has won numerous reporting and Freedom of Information Awards.
He is a former president of the Minnesota Pro Chapter, spent six as regional director representing Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota.
