The Mexican-American Connection

The power of video storytelling on the Web is ably demonstrated by "Border Stories," a collection of documentaries about the complexities of life along the border between the U.S. and Mexico. From Texas to Tijuana, these videos capture the human nuances behind the economic, cultural, environmental, political, and security issues that shadow the border region. The stories include a profile of a minuteman volunteer who spends lonely days scanning the countryside for illegal immigrants, "TJ Remixed" about a band that combines Mexican norteno music with pulsating electronic sounds, and the story of a teen who was deported to Mexico after living most of his life in the United States. Border Stories is produced by Ben Fundis, Clara Long, John Drew and Sophia Dengo and is a finalist in the 2008 Online Journalism Awards contest in the online video presentation category. www.borderstories.org/
